Update from OHUG: What’s New and What’s Next for Oracle HCM Cloud

This year’s Oracle HCM Users Group (OHUG) Global Conference in New Orleans offered both a retrospective and insight into the future of human capital management in the cloud.

(Our team at the Oracle HCM Users Group)

What a difference a decade makes! It may seem like only yesterday that Oracle was at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas introducing the PeopleSoft 9 and EBS 12 upgrades along with its new cloud software offering — Fusion, now primarily known as HCM Cloud. These days, HCM Cloud is a user-friendly and integrated product that is touted to be as intuitive as downloading an app on your phone.

These improvements come as Oracle solicits feedback from customers on what would enhance their experience. Valuable learnings include:

  • Users don’t want to spend time creating and managing excessive customizations

  • Release stagnation can lead to churn. Don’t wait years to apply the next release

HCM Cloud resolves both of these concerns by allowing for flexible configuration, rather than customization, which carry through during upgrades and automatically push all patches and upgrades to customers’ cloud environment on a pre-determined schedule.

Net New Offerings in the Works

Perhaps the most exciting part of any conference is the ability to get a first-hand sneak peek into what’s on the roadmap and OHUG is no exception. Here is what is being planned for HCM Cloud:

  • User experience is the focus of the current development strategy.  Nearly all screens have been redesigned in release 11 to match the simplified user interface introduced in release 7.

  • Functionality has been added to enable user access to reporting from almost every area in the application.

  • Current and future customers of HCM Cloud can expect Oracle to continue delivering new and exciting enhancements with each successive software release.

Customers can also expect to see some entirely new offerings including: Learning, HR Help Desk, and My Volunteering features being delivered in releases 11 and 12 along with enhancements to existing functionality. These new offerings join a comprehensive HR suite that includes HR Core, Payroll, Benefits, Absence Management, Time and Labor and Talent Management. And customers are taking full advantage of these cloud offerings, as Oracle reports that currently there are 6,000+ HCM Cloud customers in 190 countries, 275 of those being Fortune 500 companies. My how times have changed in the past ten years!
